Stucco On!!
As I drove by the library I couldn't help but notice how far along the construction has come. All the main components of the library are finally finished. The windows and the sky lights are in their designated places. The building has a couple more months until it reaches perfection. The stucco is on the building, making it look just like the library color. In the mean time the construction workers will continue working on our basketball court and finishing all the interior designs. The addition is finally closer to being finished.

Full Court or Half Court????

HGA Staff have seen a great amount of progress on our new basketball court. As you can see from these pictures, the construction is almost about done. Now we are just waiting on our court to be put up once more. At the moment it is difficult to tell if it's going to be a full or half court. We have some dirt and machines in the way, but once that is taken care of all we need is some cement and a good basketball for the real games :)Tuesday, February 10, 2009
YMCA Ramp and Wall Demolishing

On one side you have a nice and clean area, and on the other you have a chaotic, but organized mess. The stage ramp and accompanying wall have been demolished but they still need a couple of stairs to go. The dust has been billowing out of the library so thickly our building seems as if it were filled with smoke! The construction crew are using jackhammers to break it up and then haul out all of the pieces the old-fashioned way...shovels and wheelbarrows.

The Inside of the Wall

We hear clicking, clacking, hammering, and sawing. All of the things that would drive a person crazy, but not for the Home Gardens Library Staff for they are all strong willed individuals who can stand to hear all of these noises. The expansion is coming along just fine. With the new windows in place, we can start to see where all the rooms will be. There does seem to be a bit of a water leakage.

Inside the Walls of HGA

It's hard to believe that there will be a storage room, literacy office, quiet study rooms, multipurpose room, and restrooms in this new expansion. I'm so excited that we're finally going to have our multipurpose room. We will be able to offer the community more opportunities to join our family programs. By the speed they are working, it will seem the project will be done in no time at all.

A closer look...
As we look in on all of the action, we can see walls being put up and rooms coming into place. It is incredible how fast our guys got these walls up.
This picture is a view from Blair St. The wonderful arches that match our entry way to the library are already in place! The guys are busy trying to complete the rest of the addition as well. Lucky for us that it was sunny on Tuesday :)

As the Anticipation Builds Up
The anticipation of the Home Gardens Library builds up as the new community center rises on this bright and shiny day. The staff and public have watched the construction workers pull long hours on this project. We cannot wait to see the final results.

Starting the Walls

After all of our excitment in seeing the wood come in, we also had the opportunity to watch the beginning of our study rooms being built. These pictures show the great improvement of the construction workers, and how quickly they work to get the construction done. These pictures are only a small glimpse of what we will see tomorrow. Tomorrow we will find additional walls that connect to the ones you see today. The first two pictures show where our quiet study rooms will be. The last pictures show where an office and the storage room will be.

What used to be the quiet study room and conference rooms has been completely flipped from the inside out. It's hardly recognizable. These are shots from the joining of the exisiting structure to the newly enclosed expanded area.
